What to Look for When Building a Composition

According to FabsS, when building a composition, the first thing to do is look at what the pros play and check the current meta. If you want to make a new team comp yourself, it’s important to have a good knowledge of all these classes—to know their strengths and weaknesses. In FabsS’ own words, “Making a new comp that no one plays is all about looking at what’s good in the meta right now and trying to find something that counters it.”
Once you’ve thought about which compositions are currently popular, you can start to use that knowledge to build your counter. For example, at the time of this interview, Holy Priests were strong in the meta. Their strengths include mana efficiency and healing AoE damage. They’re weaker when it comes to single target healing, healing reduction effects (such as Mortal Strike), and crowd control. To counter them, FabsS and his team played Warrior, Death Knight, and Shaman and went on to win European Cup #4. FabsS sums it up by saying “If you find a new comp, and a new way of playing that comp, you cause people problems.” This is the essence of high level Arena—being ahead of the meta by countering the current top team comps or best represented classes.

Q: How do I get into the raid zone?

A: In Dalaran, Orgrimmar, or Stormwind, you may speak to Nexus-Lord Donjon Rade Sr. in order to teleport into the raid zone while it is open for testing. (The option to teleport into a zone will not be available when the zone is not open for testing.)

Q: What character should I use to test the raid?

A: Whichever you prefer. We will be scaling players’ effective level to 110 for raid testing, and their item level to an appropriate threshold for the encounter(s) being tested.

Q: How long does testing last?

A: The primary purpose of testing is to give us the information we need to balance the encounters, evaluate how mechanics are playing out in practice, and identify bugs. Once we’re satisfied that we’ve received that information for a given boss, we’ll be shutting down testing. Usually this takes anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours, but there are no guarantees.

Blizzard recently shut down the still-early project, as it would’ve changed a few too many things for their liking. See, Warcraft Tales was ambitious to a fault, skirting the lines of what’s acceptable according to Blizzard’s add-on policy. In a nutshell, the mod, headed up by YouTuber BellularGaming, would’ve remixed WoW’s level 1-60 quests, altering the way they were presented but—and this is crucial—not changing how they’d play or what you’d earn from them.

So, for instance, there’s an early quest that sends you into a mine to see the sights and wonder why video games are so obsessed with mines. With Warcraft Tales installed, you’d still do that, but instead of getting the whole story as a wall of text, you’d receive a voice-acted intro to the quest and then, once you entered the mine, overhear a conversation involving the entire zone’s villain that’d fill in some blanks. “Our goal is to create a more narratively compelling and immersive experience for you to play through,” Bellular explained in an announcement video. The overhaul would’ve been released episodically, zone-by-zone, and funded out of pocket for the first three, then by Patreon.
So basically, WoW is a massive, complicated series of intertwining systems, and if you yank on one thread, no matter how small or innocuous, you risk unraveling the whole darn thing. While it’s unlikely that a mod like Warcraft Tales would’ve wrecked WoW or even done a notable amount of damage, I can understand Blizzard’s caution. As is, Blizzard allows certain kinds of interface mods in WoW. Anything beyond that is where they draw the line.

Warcraft Tales is likely gone for good, but Bellular says he’s working “behind the scenes” to negotiate with Blizzard. I don’t love his chances, but you can’t fault him for trying. As is, sure, I know the game tells me I’m searching for goblin ears, but what I’m really searching for is a purpose.

7.2.5 Class Insights
Sigma has been active on the forums and revealing upcoming changes to classes. Today’s reveals include general talents, Balance Druid, Mistweaver Monk and Unholy DK. Yesterday, Sigma posted about all Rogue specializations in the Rogue Class Fantasy Insight.
This is indeed something we talk about a lot, especially as the number of talent rows that are custom to an individual spec’s rotation is now up to 4 or 5 on nearly all specs. You might not need 5 ways to customize which aspect of your rotation you’d most like to emphasize, or want to change 5 things to better optimize from one raid boss to the next. The broad question of “how do I want to make talent choices, what do I want them to be based on, and in what situations is it fun to change them?” is good for some open-ending thinking.
It’s not yet clear whether we’ll open up further changes in 7.2.5, since the core rotation is generally working well. Having 3 main buttons ( Festering Wound, Scourge Strike, Death Coil) that all have no cooldowns, but instead juggle 3 resources (Runes, Runic Power, Festering Wounds), is a relatively unusual melee rotation that we think has turned out pretty interesting. The biggest thing it needs is space to breathe on the resources, as has been discussed a lot. We’ll see how it looks with the Death Coil change in addition to the earlier Runic Corruption change, as well as the loss of T19 set bonuses, and see if there’s still a problem.

If we need to make further changes, the goal would likely be to focus on talents that cause a very large swing in resource generation or GCD usage. Because the rotation needs to not be flooded for max-level players with endgame bonuses, but also not too slow for leveling players, as was pointed out. This is an issue we’re starting to pay more attention to across all specs (especially melee specs). As we have more rotation-affecting talents in the game than ever before, and we buffed a lot of of them in 7.1.5, many talents (or legendaries or similar bonuses) are trying to effect large DPS increases solely through giving more of a resource or proc. It’s becoming a more common problem that specs which initially had good pacing get flooded in certain setups, and we want to start correcting those where we can.

It seems the patch will be coming a bit earlier than expected, as there’s only 5 short days to go! March 28th will be the release date for the NA zone, with EU coming the day after and Asia the day after that, as usual! Don’t forget, the Tomb of Sargeras raid will be coming at a later date.

Well, it’s finally happened and Battle.net is no more. Blizzard have had their crack team of PR people and scientists come up with the brilliant alternative that is “Blizzard App”. Missed out on unlocking the mounts in World of Warcraft and Heroes of the Storm? You still have a few more days to complete the event!

Due to mistakenly ending this WoW/Heroes cross-game promotional event a few hours earlier, it has been decided that it will return until March 26. Therefore, you have another week to play 15 HotS games on any difficulty with a friend. Our recent “For Azeroth!” in-game event that concluded on Tuesday, March 14, came to an end a few hours earlier than we told you it would. As a result, a number of players who were still racing to unlock their mounts weren’t able to finish the quest in time, and we’d like to make it up to you. We’ve decided to extend the quest by a few days so that everyone has time to complete their games and claim their rewards.

We’ve re-enabled the “For Azeroth!” event quest starting today, March 17, through Sunday, March 26. Any progress you earned prior to the quest’s original March 14 end-date will remain intact.
Finally, because those obstacles weren’t enough, the enrage kicked in (the p3 enrage, not the actual 12min enrage – the 12 minute one is mostly irrelevant). It’s a fun watch, and to be honest I chuckled a little when I discovered it. Turns otu that on top of buffing his melee attacks (like a regular enrage) he also spams Inferno every half-second or so. This inferno spam actually works in my favor by allowing a lot of Cinidaria healing, otherwise the increased melee damage from Archimonde wouldn’t really be outhealable for long. Eventually the sheer spam of infernos ends up destroying my frame rate though, so it’s not really sustainable endlessly.

Anyway this was a really cool fight, although diminished by the lack of anything meaningful in p1 and p2 (even the dps isnt relevant, considering you’d need to be quite slow for the 12min enrage to kick in before the p3 enrage itself). It was an interesting bite for sure. The video does a bad job of capturing the difficulty of the fight, it looks really easy when I re-watch it but it was hell during attempts :p

Usually I’d say that this concludes the expac soloing nicely but there wasn’t much of a journey this time around, especially considering I completely ignored Mythic BRF so far. Next will be… idk really, maybe back to mythic+, maybe more mythic bosses, maybe something else.

How long does Tomb of Sargeras raid testing last?
The preliminary raid test will hit the shelves on Feb 10. Gornoth boss will be available to test at 13:00 PST, and Harjatan at 14:00 PST.
Usually the testing takes from 45 minutes to 2 hours. But for the end time, there are no guarantees. The test servers will close when Blizzard receive enough info for a given boss.

Blizzard has replied that it is coming right on the heels of plenty of raid content on the live servers. As reported before, Tomb of Sargeras will not be available right when 7.2 unlocks, and a quest arc, similar to 7.1 Suramar Insurrection campaign, will lead up to its opening.
As Tomb of Sargeras and most descriptive text need to be in patch 7.2 data, the raid testing itself should be done far earlier, relative to the date when the raid will actually go live.

35+ Artifact Traits were disabled in WOW PvP Season 2

It’s well-known that character progression is a core element of World of Warcraft, including PvP, and that empowering Artifact is a key part of character progression. But to close the gap between players who hadn’t made much progress on their Artifact yet and those with additional Artifact traits, the additional 35 Artifact traits were disabled in Season 2.

35+ Artifact Traits planned to be enable in 7.1.5

As scheduled, Patch 7.1.5 would introduce some new ways to make players catch u their Artifact progression quickly:

1. New players advance up to Artifact Knowledge level 15 without any research time;

2. Existing players mail Artifact Knowledge Compendiums to alts, which immediately bring them as high as level 20.

In addition, here is a guide from 7.1.5 PTR to catch up to level 20 with Artifact Knowledge Compendium.

At this point, the power gap can be closed rapidly, and WOW Patch 7.1.5 would be the best chance to enable additional Artifact Traits. But things are not quite that simple.

Few hours ago, Blizzard disabled addition 35 Artifact Traits in Legion, because they don’t think that the middle of an ongoing season is the right time to make this change. And all those additional WOW Artifact Traits will be re-enabled once Season 3 goes live.

Besides, Blizzard also announced that WOW Patch 7.2 will add something new in the Artifact system, in order to make it highly valuable to spent Artifact Power on those traits. As we reported before, you should never stop to collect up Artifact Power in Patch 7.2.

Nostalrius has stopped the account transfer process to Elysium

It was announced that Nostalrius Server returned on dec 17 with database and fresh-start server. Yes, they did it already. But changes took place in the story. The Nostalrius team has posted a request to the Elysium team to stop using the World of Warcraft code that it has released to them. And also, they have already stopped the account transfer process as a first step.

Why would Nostalrius do that for Legacy fans and WOW community?

Initially, Nostalrius aimed to achieve official WOW Legacy servers from Blizzard and help as much as they can to unify the WOW community together. But as things go, the main objective was missed.

First, when the petition to WOW Legacy servers was came up, there were 300,000 people to vote for it. But only 10% of the former Nostalrius players have generated a token to join Elysium. Such a result is likely to indicate this project failed, and they need to reconsider it now.

Second, the decision to release our source code and character database to Elysium actually made their initial goal harder to achieve. It carries the hope of the legacy community but moving from “fan server” to “pirate server”.

Nostalrius’ plan for World of Warcraft Legacy servers

They have already demonstrated that there is a true desire for Legacy WoW content. Currently, the Nostalrius team has stopped the account transfer process and asked Elysium to stop to use their data. And then they will devote themselves to making an official legacy realms, instead of private servers. And they will find the proper to please WoW community as a whole in the future.
